Cultivated as both a food and medicine, Garlic has been used in culinary and herbal traditions for thousands of years. Interestingly, as modern science has evolved, so too has our understanding of garlic and how it works in the body. Key to this is the understanding that not all garlic is the same.
Fresh garlic, for instance, though tasty, does degrade quickly once chopped. Sadly, this means that garlic degrades and loses its ability to act as medicine when taken fresh. Lucky for us, modern medicine has devised a strategy to age garlic, making it more therapeutic.
Forty years ago, scientists discovered a way to stabilise garlic whilst preserving all its healing qualities. What they in fact found was a way to enhance the healing qualities of the herb whilst maintaining its purity – by aging organic garlic in a temperature and moisture controlled environment for up to 20 months.
Following this discovery over 60 years ago, Aged Garlic Extract has been the subject of more than 700 studies, including its most recent in February 2016. These new studies independently found that people with uncontrolled blood pressure, and those with early heart disease indicators (something known as low attenuation plaque formation) receive therapeutic benefits from taking Aged Garlic extract.
Kyolic® Aged Garlic can be taken preventatively, particularly in the cold and flu season. It is also beneficial in reducing the duration of an illness.
